California State Standards
ABOUT
The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort coordinated by the national Governors IMAGEAssociation Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). The standards for the English-language arts and mathematics, which were released June 2, 2010, and were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administration and experts.

THE STANDARDS
- Are aligned with college and work ready expectations
- Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills
- Ensuring programs and curricula include development of 21st Century Skills necessary for succeeding in the “real world”
- Are informed by other top performing countries, making them internationally benchmarked, so that all students are prepared to succeed in our global economy and society
- Are evidence-based
- Include an integration of technology and media skills
- Include a shared responsibility of literacy throughout content areas
