Feather River Academy Beats 2012 API Expectations
Feather River Academy, the Sutter County Superintendent of Schools County Community School, shows amazing growth on the 2012Academic Performance Index (API) results with a gain of 146 points, the greatest growth throughout Sutter County. The API scores, a measurement of academic performance and progress of schools in California, were released on October 11. The tremendous gain reflects the restructuring effort underway at F.R.A. since July 2011. The 146 API point growth follows the recent news that Feather River Academy received their full accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in June 2012 for the first time in their school history. When asked what has made the greatest difference, Principal Gayelynn Gerhart responded, “We are focusing on creating a school culture that is safe and respectful. Our staff discussions target flexible learning environments to increase student engagement. We have invested heavily in technology and continue to emphasize teacher creativity and responsibility in the classroom.” Feather River Academy students have been underestimated for years; this is just the beginning for FRA to move forward in a positive way. We want the county to view Feather River Academy, truly, as an alternative high school in the Yuba City community.
